His surgery is scheduled for Sept. 24.

Jorge, a 16 year old boy from Guatemala, has been on the waiting list for nearly 3 years. Jorge’s surgeon, Dr. Balcom, actually found this young man while on a mission trip. He finally arrived on the 4th of July, 2008 to foster parents Joe and Sara Roman. Jorge has a hernia that needs repair and has issues with hypospadias and incontinence. Upon evaluation it was discovered that his pelvic bones are too far apart and must be repaired or this will cause his hernia to recur due to lack of support.

DENTAL MISSIONS HUGE SUCCESS

Matagalpa, Nicaragua 2006 and San Ramon, Nicaragua 2007. Healing the Children has had two VERY successful dental missions these past 2 years. Our first one was conducted at a clinic in Matagalpa where 107 children were seen and a total of 355 procedures were performed. We did 97 fillings, 245 extractions and 13 fluoride treatments. Amalgum, which is used for fillings, is government regulated and is not available for the most part, especially for patients who are not paying for services. Fortunately, Josh brought his own supply. Children were brought in from different schools throughout the city, all arriving at 7 AM and many waiting all day to see the doctor. All the action took place in the tiny quarters of the clinic between visits by the regular dentists, parents, translators, assistants, hygienists and administrators. The children were screened for basic health issues by Jennifer (RN), and bags of toothpaste and tooth brushes, dental hygiene packets and toys were given to each child. In 2007, the team went to the remote areas of San Ramon, Nicaragua. Our dentist, Josh Luete, was joined this year by Dr. Jose, a local dentist from the San Ramon- Matagalpa area. We took a horse trailer with a pick-up truck and created our own “mobile” dental unit. HTC purchased a portable dental unit this year for this trip and future dental missions. So, with our driver and team of 11 people, we went out to serve the poorest of the poor, families living in black plastic bag and stick homes. Because it was the rainy season, our team had special challenges. Our trailer got stuck in the mud the first night, and we all feared we would have to stay overnight, but our experienced driver prevailed, and we were able to get out. Timing was of the essence, as we were watching the storms and had to worry about the rivers and bridges washing out. Some of the children walked for hours to see the dentists. Again, each child received a gift bag. The grand totals were 225 children seen, 347 procedures, 46 fillings and 301 extractions. AWESOME JOB in one short week!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Construction Mission In 2005 our team refurbished the Perez E. Perfecta School and this was the letter we received.

Dear Gentlemen: Healing the Children

“The parks of the city will be filled with children who will play in them” Zach. 8:5

We wish that Christ’s peace fill your hearts and your loved ones’. This is our wish made prayer. We beg the Lord for all the people that make it possible that the work we do at our “Homer” continue. For all of those people that without knowing us, but with a noble heart know about the needs of others and come to relieve them. Thank you for what you have sent us (balls, bags with items for our children – boy and girls – and crayons) through Lelia Gonzalez. God bless you all and give you the graces that you most need to be close to Him and His kingdom. That at the end is the only thing eternal. The things of this world pass, the time passes and very quickly more than one realizes but the only truth is close to Eternity and the only things we take with us is the good work that we have done. Thank you because with your help we can continue working and providing these kids what they need and can’t get any other place. Thank you and God Bless you.
Dora Chinchilla Jimenez, Director.
